Brianne Jasmin Aeria takes a trip to escape the hectic city life and shares her ‘home’ for the weekend with us.

Ombak Dive Resort

The Perhentian Islands comprise of two main islands, Perhentian Besar and Perhentian Kecil. Both are located in Besut and have seen its fair share of tourists over the years. Featuring the timeless golden combination of sandy beaches, crystal clear waters and warm sunrays, Ombak Dive Resort is a popular accommodation in the area.

This family-run business was launched in 2012 by Ng Yen Yen and is split into three main sections; Ombak Lodge, Ombak Cafe and Ombak Divers.

The name, “Ombak Dive Resort” came about as large waves usually batter the shore during the monsoon season. Furthermore, the name “ombak” which translates to “wave” in English, was something the family hoped would stick in their international guests’ minds, with the pride of knowing at least one word in the native language.

Ombak Lodge

A large signage at the entrance of Ombak Dive Resort greets guests upon arrival, and as you walk into the reception area, it feels rather exclusive and posh. On the whole, the resort contains 25 rooms ranging from single, twin, triple and quadruple sharing rooms. The resort even caters to honeymooners by providing exclusive suites for them to indulge in. A fun fact was that all rooms were named after inhabitants of the sea.

With a Nusantara theme in mind, the whole resort is decked in wood aesthetics with ‘kerawang’ as one of its main features. Every room comes with a bed and an attached bathroom. Back to basics, all the rooms have high ceilings to allow for better air ventilation and rely on generators to provide 24-hour electricity to all rooms. The rooms are pretty basic and come equipped with shelves, a study table, a clothes rack and WiFi.

Ombak Cafe

The cafe led by Chef Jogie serves a variety of food ranging from Chinese, Indian, Italian, Thailand and even barbeque. Enjoy your dinner under the stars as you dine at the open-air cafe.

Ombak Divers

At the Ombak Dive Resort, as the name suggests, diving is the number one activity to partake in. There are various diving courses for different levels and in multiple languages. Ombak Divers is a certified PADI Dive Resort. An exciting course which you can take would be the Rebreather course, which is a new trend in diving.

For those who are not into diving, the resort is also able to arrange for other activities such as snorkelling and hiking. If you wish to explore on your own, you can take a short stroll to the Long Beach. There are signages that will lead you there, so it's hard to miss.

You can feel the passion and dedication from the family in running the business. The staff are very accommodating and friendly too. They made me feel right at home, and I’m looking forward to returning here once more.
