Improving Crop Yield, While Saving Costs and the Environment
SmartGro is designed to release nutrients according to plant demand, which minimises the risk of leaf scorching and reduces fertiliser wastage. Likewise, the polymer coating reduces nutrient loss through leaching, volatilisation and runoff.
Next, fertiliser application rounds are reduced due to the ‘timed release’ effect of the CRF. The release period can be controlled from 1 month up to 12 months; therefore, a ‘single application’ concept for the whole growth period is possible. The product also increases crop yield due to ‘sustained feeding’ and comes with added beneficial microbes to increase plant disease immunity and improves soil conditions.
SmartGro polymer coating also utilises vegetable oil, which is highly degradable and therefore environment-friendly. It also eliminates waterway pollution caused by leaching of excess nutrients when using conventional fertilisers.
The SmartGro Process
As water is poured onto the fertilisers, the water penetrates the semi-permeable membrane through micropores in the fertiliser coating. Then, the moisture dissolves some of the nutrients within the capsule. As pressure increases, nutrients diffuse out through the coating into the soil at a regulated rate.
The rate at which nutrients are dissolved and released is controlled by the temperature, coating material and thickness of the coating. This process repeats until the pressure in the capsule reaches an equilibrium.

- Release duration (1,3, 6, or 9-12 months)
- Colour of coating (Yellow, red, green)
