Adventurous Selangor

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, which is precisely why Selangor is the ideal destination to get your adrenaline pumping.

Catch a bird's-eye view of the land by parasailing at Bukit Jugra

Selangor has always been a favourite tourist spot due to its rapid development, unique cultures and presents a perfect getaway for some much-needed rest and relaxation. Besides its charming faces of great sceneries and well-developed cities, Selangor is also a favourite spot for sports lovers as it houses several extreme parks.

Adrenaline Pumping Adventures

Set in our very own backyard, these extreme parks are fast becoming one of Malaysia’s leading outdoor activity hubs. One of the closest attraction to the city would be the Shah Alam Extreme Park. Designed by professional roller skater Tim Altic, the park serves as a skatepark and is well equipped with all the facilities a skater could ask for. The hit global sport has always had a large following even in Malaysia; hence the park is the ideal hangout spot for them.

If you are looking for something more family-oriented, a trip to Sunway Lagoon Theme Park is what you’d want. A pride of Selangor since way back, the park caters to visitors both local and abroad. While the theme park is still the most popular attraction, Sunway Lagoon Extreme Park is fast becoming a choice for families seeking a more thrilling time. With activities like jet-skiing, wakeboarding, fly-fishing, paintball, futsal, scuba diving, angling, go-karting and even dirt karts, there’s fun for the whole family. If you are daring enough, and not faint of heart, there is even bungee jumping available.

The Sky’s The Limit

Everyone wants to reach new heights and when you visit Bukit Jugra in Banting, you literally can do so. Operated by the Malaysian Paragliding and Hand Gliding Association, an unforgettable experience awaits those ready to take on the sport of paragliding. Feel your heart race as you soar through the sky. Once considered an extreme sport, paragliding is now acknowledged as one of the safest airborne activities, thanks to continuous improvement by experts.

With its base located at Bukit Jugra’s lighthouse, those heading to Banting from the Klang Valley will need to head south along the coastal road from Klang – which should take 40 to 60 minutes. For those driving from KLIA or Putrajaya, it is a half hour drive going north on the coastal road past Morib.

Motorised paragliding is a step up from its traditional non-powered self as it is easier to learn and wind conditions become less of a factor. This activity not only allows you to glide amongst the clouds, but it also gives you a bird's-eye view of the world below. Tandem paragliding is also very popular here as you may take that Insta-worthy selfie while a professional controls the glider.

Nature’s Touch

Broga Hill of Selangor's famous hiking grounds

A great way to reset your biological clock and get in touch with nature would be to explore some of Selangor’s famous hiking grounds. Some of these include Broga Hills at Semenyih, Jugra Hill, Kiara Hill park, and Nuang Mountain at Hulu Langat. Each of these locations is accessible by both seasoned hikers and beginners. Not only does hiking keep you fit, but it is also a great social activity that can be carried out with family and friends.

If hiking is not your cup of tea, why not explore the jungle’s wonders from the treeline. Skytrex Adventure is one of the top attractions at Taman Botanical Shah Alam, which allows visitors to navigate through several aerial obstacle courses which are suspended along the forest canopy. It is split into three different categories of difficulty – Big Thrill, Extreme Challenge and Little Adventure. Taman Botanical Shah Alam also has an Animal Park, Four-Season Temperate House, and even a Tropical Fruit Garden.

With so much to see and do, Selangor is a region filled with non-stop entertainment and excitement. It's good to get your heart racing and blood pumping now and then.
