It works by sampling exhaled air through small tubes or the nasal cannula and analysing the amount of CO2 which is then reflected as waveforms and numbers.
It is crucial to determine changes in ventilation or respiratory depression and further measures oxygen levels in the blood. This would allow immediate remedial actions before any irreversible damage is done to the brain due to hypoxia.
